This is the official TVC short film produced for the Tourism Administration, aims to show the culture of Chinese New Year in the Guangdong province and help a contemporary young man understand a custom which is nearly lost in modern society. The total filming period was nearly 3 months. The biggest challenge of this short film was that we needed to collect the cultural customs of the Spring Festival in different counties and cities on a large scale, and all within a short time period. Additionally, because the essence of this short film is TVC rather than a documentary, it needed a more attractive screen design.

In this film, I acted as an actor, director, screenwriter, photographer, and editor. It tells the story of a mother diagnosed with cancer and her son, who is studying in Australia. Due to financial constraints, the son could not afford to buy plane tickets to visit his parents during his ten-year stay in Australia. During her son’s first year abroad, she was diagnosed with advanced liver cancer. In order not to affect her son studying abroad, she recorded thousands of short voice messages before her death and asked her husband to send them to their son regularly. The messages had always accompanied him in his time abroad. After graduating from college, the son found a good job. Due to his busy work, he never found time to return to China. It was not until Mid-Autumn Festival many years later that he received the last text message from his mother, which told him the truth.
